Do you frequent Riverpath Del Mar near the Grand Avenue Bridge? If so, please help our lagoon stewardship by sharing your observations.
Regulars to the Riverpath near San Dieguito Drive and Jimmy Durante Boulevard might be noticing more and more people fishing in the lagoon. Please note that fishing is not allowed from the bridge. Just east of the structure, along 30 yards of shoreline, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife allows fishing. The area, which is marked with CDFW signs, closes to fishing from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
In all other areas east of Jimmy Durante Boulevard, fishing is prohibited.
The River Park JPA does not own or manage this land and is unable to enforce its regulations. But we can observe, keep it clean and share information with others. That’s where you come in.
When visiting Riverpath Del Mar, you can make a difference by:
Documenting what you see. Email a note with photos or videos to sdrvc@sdrvc.org. We're tracking how increased use may be impacting the wetlands over time;
Helping clean up. In particular, discarded fishing line can harm wildlife. WILDCOAST is set to install a trash receptacle near the bridge to make waste disposal easier;
Reporting abandoned gear, unsafe conditions, or misuse of the area to CDFW's 24-hour CALTIP line: 888-334-CALTIP (2258); Text "CALTIP" followed by your message to 847411; and
Downloading the free CALTIP app to submit anonymous tips.
Thank you for joining the Conservancy, River Park JPA, CDFW and the City of Del Mar to protect this precious habitat. By becoming a lagoon steward, you can help to ensure the fragile wetlands continue to thrive.
