Land Acquisition

Donors have choices if they want to support the River Park by directing contributions specifically for land acquisitions. They can designate their donation to the purchase of a specific property or can donate to the Land Acquisition Fund.

Designation for a Specific Property
A donor can designate a specific property they would like to support the acquisition of. The next major acquisition that is anticipated to be added to the River Park involves approximately 1,500 acres on the northwest slope of Volcan Mountain.

Land Acquisition Fund
A donor can direct their support to the Land Acquisition Fund, which is used for:

  • The purchase of properties
  • To identify and evaluate potential properties for purchase
  • To negotiate the purchase of properties

Local donations for property acquisition demonstrate “local support” and are the key to obtaining state grants, which usually pay for the largest share of acquisitions, especially of the larger land purchases.  The acquisition of both Lake Southerland East and Bernardo Mountain were made possible with strong financial support from the community, which paved the way for The Conservancy to receive state grants.
