Habitat Management

Donors can assist in restoring habitat in the River Park by designating their support to the Habitat Management Fund. The types of projects that are supported include:

  • Wetlands restoration
  • Invasive plant removal
  • Habitat recovery after the fires

Conservancy habitat management projects usually employ a mix of professionally contracted work and volunteers. As with land acquisition, local donations are very important in showing the “local support” that it takes to leverage state and federal grants for habitat management work.

Before

After

We are working with biologists and other technical experts to determine the best use of resources during the recovery phase, including mapping intact habitat areas, identifying priority areas for revegetation and aggressive control of invasive species. Because much of the burn area supported special status species before the fire, we are particularly concerned about the recovery of native habitat and its effect on the survival of threatened or endangered species over the long-term.

For more information about the fire recovery process and how you can help, please see the Fire Recovery Action Program.
