San Dieguito Watershed Council

In September of 2006, the San Dieguito Watershed Management Plan was finalized, creating a script for the long-term preservation of the natural and recreational resources in the County’s fourth-largest watershed. In January of 2007, the San Dieguito Watershed Council was formed to implement the Watershed Management Plan through a coalition of stakeholders. The Conservancy and the River Park are co-chairing the Watershed Council in its first year.

The Watershed Council currently has 13 members, including municipalities, non-profit organizations, water agencies and the County of San Diego. The Council’s Working Groups will further define and seek funding for the specific tasks outlined in the watershed management plan. The Council’s Weed Management Working Group is forming a long-term strategy for combating invasive species in the watershed. Other topics currently being addressed include water quality assessment and data warehousing and public outreach about how citizens can protect water quality.
