San Dieguito Estuary North Bank Restoration

In 2006, the Conservancy received a $19,350 grant from the Southern California Wetlands Recovery Project to restore native habitat on 1.15 acres of land on the northern side of the river channel in the San Dieguito Lagoon. Partnering with the 22nd District Agricultural Association, who operate the Del Mar Fairgrounds and own the property where the project is located, the Conservancy will rehabilitate an area that has been heavily impacted by decades of dumping and human encroachment.

The North Bank project will enhance a new segment of the River Park’s Coast-to-Crest Trail. This section of trail will connect the Lagoon Boardwalk – completed in the summer of 2007 – to another new segment planned for 2008 that will continue under the I-5 freeway toward the east along the north side of the lagoon.




How You Can Help
We are depending on the hard work of volunteers from the surrounding communities, local schools and service organizations to help with the North Bank project! Work will consist of clearing the site of non-native plants, trash and debris, and revegetating with native container plants and seeds.
