OUR PARTNERS

The Conservancy works in regular partnership with other organizations both governmental and non-governmental. For example, Bernardo Mountain was purchased jointly with the River Park Joint Powers Authority with the assistance of the City of Escondido, San Diego County, the Friends of the San Dieguito River Valley, The Nature Conservancy, and the Trust for Public Land.

River Park Team

The Conservancy, the River Park, and the Friends of the San Dieguito River Valley act in ongoing partnership, we share the "Same Goals but Different Roles".

San Dieguito River Park Joint Powers Authority (JPA)
is a multi-jurisdictional governmental agency that manages the River Park, and works with the Conservancy on a day-to-day basis. Conservancy and River Park programs are planned jointly each organization concentrating on it special capabilities. For example, some grants are available only to governmental agencies, such as the JPA; others favor or are exclusively for non-profits, like the Conservancy.

Friends of the San Dieguito River Valley is a citizens group actively advocating for the preservation of the land within the San Dieguito River Valley system. The Friends are especially active in defending the San Dieguito Lagoon ecosystem.

Strategic Partners

The Conservancy works in partnership with citizen organizations within the river valley and in areas adjacent to the valley

Volcan Mountain Preserve Foundations which has the lead role in the acquisition and protective stewardship of Volcan Mountain, and with whom the Conservancy actively supports and partners. The Conservancy and Volcan Mountain Preserve Foundation jointly purchased the Rutherford C property on Volcan Mountain and are working jointly on additional Volcan Mountain purchases.

The Escondido Creek Conservancy with whom the Conservancy successfully partnered with in the purchase of the Derbas parcel above Del Dios Highway linking the Escondido Creek corridor and Elfin Forest Recreation area with Lake Hodges and the San Dieguito River Park. TECC works in the adjoining watershed to the north.

Trust for Public Land (TPL) is a national nonprofit working to protect land for human enjoyment and well-being. The Conservancy, River Park JPA and TPL have partnered on the purchase of about 1,200 acres over the last couple years – between Lake Sutherland and Santa Ysabel Ranch adjoining Volcan mountain and, within the San Dieguito Lagoon. TPL also assisted on the purchase of Bernardo Mountain.

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is an international nonprofit working to preserve the plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth. TNC assisted with thepurchase of Bernardo Mountain and the Conservancy is working with TNC to protect the Ramona Grasslands.
